My Movie Reviews for 2015

Dilwale:  1/5 Goa+Cars+ pink + yellow+ blue colour = Rohit Shetty movie sets! The first page of the script is written. Vasuli as some other Bhai minus his munni + other side actors = extras ka Intezaam hogaya! Because Tushaar and Aftab are busy making kya Kool hai hum 3 so we cast chucha and for comedy since Ritesh Deshmukh now does sensible movies Varun Dhawan is the new side actor! Who needs a good script if I have Sharukhh and Kajol! I felt the movie was made for the sake of being made! Therefore I am writing this review for the sake of it! A good story line which is wasted with all the above mention crapp! Sharukhh I am waiting for Raeez and Fan! Kajol learn from Tabu to do good roles! Varun Dhawan why u taking badla after giving good movie like Badlapur! Kirti Sanon done good heroinpanti!
Bajirao Mastani: 3/5 Firstly to begin with the movie is not about war and bloodshed. The story goes well with the title it is about Bajirao and Mastani. The movie is a mix Jodha Akhbar and Ram Leela. The sets, clothes, Scenes where Bajirao meets the Mughals for collaborations – reminds you of Jodha Akhbar. The luv story between Deepika and Ranveer – the whole concept of neglecting their relationship and society talking about Dharam and Cast, takes you back to Ram Leela. The first half of the movie gets at times a bit boring. I could feel as if the director was confused if he had to show more of Bajirao as a warrior or concentrate more on his love story. Also I could find Priyanka Chopra still finding her place in the first half. In one moment you will see her sitting with her Dasi all the time (just like Ash in Jodha Akhbar) and next moment she is just welcoming Ranveer after he wins a war. Mastani on other hand gets her recognition sometimes as lover, as a Dancer. Let me tell you she is beautiful and played both the parts very well. You could feel her anger in her eyes, even if she stood calm and didn’t utter a word when she was being insulted. I want to make special mention for a scene where Priyanka invites Deepika for Karva Chauth - the way she insults and also at the same time gives Mastani her right to participate in the function, was a good move. There I felt chalo finally Priyanka brought some Power in her role, even if it was for one scene. Ranveer as Bajirao – He was good, no I am sorry I can’t say excellent but yes he played an excellent lover to Deepika, but when it came to playing the king, I could get glimpse of Hrithik in my mind saying the same dialogue but with much power. Tanvi Azmi playing Ranveer’s mother was great. She was witty plus emotional at the same time – But again her role reminded me of Ila Arun in Jodha Akhbar as Maham Anga- when she played witty. On the whole Bajirao Mastani is a good one time watch.  Watch it for Mastani – Sanjay Leela Bansali and his large sets.
Tamasha:  Imatiz + Ranbir =   ***1/2 (half star for Deepika) this is the first time I have felt extremes about any movie.  If I need to write in a comic way: I would say remember ‘FARHAN QURESHI’ from 3IDIOTS? Who wanted be a photographer and thanks to Rancho – he finally did! Ever thought if he didn’t meet Rancho what could have happen?? Well to know that watch Tamasha! Now this is my comic sarcastic one star movie review. Lekin - Tamasha is more to this – it’s about a person who listens to his heart only within the 4 walls of his bedroom – but the moment he steps out he only listens to his mind. If this movie was been made by any other director – my first three lines would have ended the review. Imatiz there is hidden magic in his movie making and storytelling. From locations to poetry to Dialogue’s and Directions captures your mind in each and every seen. Deepika – I would say she is the Tadka! At the end I would say if you are someone who can take a slow start and have the patience to watch the movie and Ranbir – Yes he is the heart of the movie, you should go for it. But if you like to be in your fantasy world– then I guess you better wait for Dilwale!!
Prem Ratan Dhan Payo: 3/5 Rajshri movies are said to be diabetic movies - so sweet that you cannot digest them. Well PRDP is sweet but only this time the production house has really been health conscious and reduced the doze of sweetness so you can enjoy your salted popcorns! Well prdp is an upgraded version of hum saath saath hai where this time they have cut all extra and unwanted characters and focused only on the goodie Prem! Sonam plays a Sonam pretty and well pretty! The movie has its own moments which makes it funny, cute and sweet! The large sets and all the royal palaces looks beautiful on the large screen! A quick first half and thoda lamba second half with typical Rajshri ending! Watch it if you want to take a revisit to the 90"s! One time watch!

Shaandaar: 1/5 if someone has seen Drishyam the movie had a tag line visual can be deceptive! Well this tag line goes for Shaandaar too! The trailer is deceptive! Cute Aila and hottie Shahid when seen together obliviously I will fall for it! The movie is brainless I mean even in Priyadarshan movie when I say brainless but I still say leave your brains at home and enjoy this movie! I can’t even say that 4this one! In recent Shahid Kapoor interview he said we were offered Shaandaar before he did Haider and Alia did highway and Queen released for Vikas(director) Therefore I forgive all three of them for making and acting in such a movie! Its bakwaas! Guys if u like the songs of the movie download it and hear it! Don’t go for the movie!
BROTHERs: 2/5 Confession time: Frankly I had this feeling after watching the trailers of the movie that it’s not going to be that great, but being a Siddharth Malhotra fan I watched it. Story- Theek thi I felt the first half of the movie was tooo long and the unnecessary flashback of Akshay and Jacqueline (luv wala Ganna) was a waste.  Second half was good – the fights picked up the movie and gave it an end finally. Yeah like all I waiting for the two “BROTHERS” to fight so that finally happened and movie khatam.  Acting: Shefali – was fine. Jacky Shroff was good. – Akshay was Akshay – he can pull any act. Siddharth – I can say he got an upgrade from his last movie Ek Villain – better tapori acting – he still got to learn – his emotional scenes were good but not his anger. I would make a special mention for Jacqueline Fernandez – I don’t know if she has made her Hindi better – but her acting has surely become better.  Watch it if you are fan of WWF  or such fights – otherwise if it goes a flop it will be on TV next month and if it goes hit – still within 6 months you will watch it on TV. – So don’t waste money. PAISA BACHAO BETTER MOVIES COMING UP IN SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR!!
Drishyam 4/5 Drishyam is about a common man living a simple life and how sometimes due to uncalled circumstances the family gets trapped into situation which they didn’t even think of in their dreams. If you think of it is a very simple case which you think can be solved easily especially when you have Tabu as the hard-core police officer in front of you and when she comes on screen you have that line in your mind “Ab ye toh Gaya”. But here comes the twist we forget that Ajay Devgan (who keeps repeating that he chauthi fail) has a mind of devil when it comes to save his family. The director has very smartly just wrapped the whole crime scene and the cover up story so quickly that you don’t get time to think of any loop holes. Ajay has done an excellent job I don’t think of any other actor in Hindi cinema could pull of this act – I read in his recent interviews when he said that he does movies which work at the box office – Ajay this is one of them – sorry not Action Jackson.  Tabu what should I say? I have always been her fan whether it is in Astitva as a household wife or Haider – no matter how small or big the role is she makes sure here presence felt. Ajay Devgan’s family- wife and two daughters are good too. A special mention for the younger daughter who keeps you glued till the last 30 minutes with her act.  The problem is in our Hindi cinema is we don’t make such movies and even if we want to we make sure we take popular actors Amir Khan (Talash) Varun Dhawan (Badlapur) thinking at least opening achi milegi and agar story mein dum nahi nikla toh audience actor ki wajah se theatre mein ayegi movie dekhne (at least once) - I have to say with a pinch of salt even this one is a remake of south- no original plot.  Watch it if you’re bored  of watching the typical Bollywood movies and yes Ajay Devgan is worth at least once to go and watch his movies in the theatre. Go For This One! And don’t miss the Climax!
Bajrangi Bhaijaan 4/5 after Ready, Ek tha Tiger, Kick etc. after watching all 100 crore and above Salman movies this is the only one which is worth 300 core movie. Salman plays the innocent guy again and kareena acts her best as supporting actress –  Well I know she is the lead actress but her role is isn’t much as usual. The highlight of the movie is the little girl Harshaali Malhotra who steals the show. She is cute – her expressions are so innocent and perfect without a dialogue – that on other hand you feel only if kareena can shut up and do the same. The only drawback in movie was when you have such a good story line and strong characters the audience wants to know what happens next – in the beginning the unnecessary songs and luv story of Salman and Kareena – again with a song distracts you from the story line and makes you think ok – Get back to the girl and continue. The second half is what the best part of the movie is - Nawazuddin Siddiqui- being supporting cast still takes the 50% of movie on his shoulders and with his comic timing and emotions takes the show.  The movie is worth to watch this time “n” numbers of times. Salman this time your Eidi was worth. J
ABCD 2:   1/5 I can write the review for this movie in one line – if you are a fan of the dance shows on TV then you will love it. Otherwise the movie has nothing!  Oh yeah it has – Shraddha Kapoor straight from Ek Villain – to ABCD 2 sets – Chirpy  - a less noisy and more bearable this time. Varun – amazing Dancer – lost his acting skills to learn dance and make 6 pack abs for this movie. A special mention only to Punit Pathak – who played dumb and deaf – he really acted well – loved him in ABCD and my love just grew for him in this one. Time pass watch!
Dil Dhadakne do 3.5/5 You know there is this dialogue from old classic movie Chupke Chupkke where our Veeru paji (Dharmendar) tells Amitabh “Actor kya hota hai Director Ki haath ki katputli” Zoya has just followed this norm! Writing review for movie – is basically judging the good and bad, criticizing it and telling the director indirectly that you could have made it better!! But what will you tell a perfectionist? Zoya Akhtar in today’s date is a director with perfect vision.
Tanu Weds Manu Returns 2.5/5 I loved Tanu and Manu in part1 and my expectations bar raised when part 2 was announced. But unfortunately both my favourite characters failed. The first half of the movie was strong and took off lives of Tanu and Manu really well in two different cities Kanpur and Delhi – but the flight that took off well – landed nowhere for me. In part one each and every character from Tanu to Manu to Pappi to Jassi to Payal and Raja were well defined. In Part 2 – all were wasted. The only character that shined for me was Kusum aka Kangana Ranaut. She was the highlight of the movie and I genuinely felt bad at the end for her. I would say a strong first half lost its plot in second half dragged till the end only so Manu can get her Tanu again and leave Pappi single again god knows what happened to his love life for whom so much drama took placed to runaway the bride and  leave Raja( Jimmy Shergill) lonely forever again.
Piku: 4/5 so I met Piku. She is workaholic, strong independent - but still needs a companion, angry stressed, frustrated, cute, loveable, and cunning. She loves her family but can never show, she tries to be sweet when frustrated, but ends up being the bad one, selfish but yet caring. She is any other girl in today’s date, she is me.  Amitabh - what should I say he is the best!! Irfan khan: he plays one of those boys, where every girl wishes for (not because he is hot or cute) because he makes a girl looks into his eyes I thinks (ok he can understand my parents more than I can and yes he can tolerate them), Trust me all you boys there who are busy making 6 pack abs, if you want to patofy a girl watch Piku. A movie which makes you laugh and also makes you feel emotional. This is not a Karan Johar or Anurag Basu movie where we concentrate on screenplay, dresses, cinematography and Intensity or how good the music is. This is a simple story of what you and I live daily, without having any background music and Manish Malhotra wardrobe. Watch it if you want have glimpse of your life in 2 hours.
Dum laga ke haisha 4/5 the movie takes you back in the 90's era a quick flash back to your childhood without FB and twitter! Loved the movie cause of its simplicity and characters you can connect in real life!! No sexy actress and actor with 6 pack abs! A story with a great message especially for fat women who are first asked to pray god so they get married and then asked to thank god – if they get married and also adjust (even if you husband doesn’t love or respect you) cause – BE THANKFULL you at least got married. Set back in 90’s the movie also repeats the concept of arrange marriages and how they are always set with the rule “ye fevicol ka jor hai tutega nahi” Ayushmaan Khuranna and Bhumi act so realistic that every frame looks convincing and the joint family members acts effortlessly. I wish Bollywood could understand that you don't need hifi star cast and posh sets to make great movie!!
Badlapur 3/5 is based on one of my favourite dialogues from the movie Haider ‘Inteqam (avenge) se sirf Inteqam paida hota hai. Jab tak hum apne inteqam se azaad nahi hote, azadi bhi Hume azad nahi kar sakti.’
Now the question is if Raghu (Varun Dhawan) manages to get azadi or not! The first few minutes of the movie with minimal background score keeps you glued to the screen. After ROCKSTAR I guess everyone wants to make a confusing screenplay and leave it for the audience to join it in the end, if it succeeds then it is a Hit! Badlapur does succeed, it make some sense in the movie. The only thing it could have been better if certain things where conveyed properly unless if you have watched Haider you may understand it!! Varun Dhawan is getting better and portrays the intense look at his best. Special mention to Nawazuddin he was good- you could say he was the hero!! Watch it if you’re depressed after watching Roy or if you like intense, sad but still good Cinema!!

like her characters even her movies are prim and proper. They are so correct – that you will think twice before pointing a finger. Ok I know I should be giving you a jist of the story here and telling you about the acting skills that all actors have! But Zoya Akhtar is the Captain of this ship and she knows how to sail this ship very well!! Be it Anil Kapoor, Shefali Chayya, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar they are not treated like stars in this movie – they are asked to act how much the script demands and asked to master in their job. We all have Family issues and the movie is all about what we say in our mind – is being said directly on your face!! Loved the movie not because it’s casting but because Zoya Akhtar knows she is the director and the leash of the movie is in her hands!! Must watch!!ust like her characters even her movies are prim and proper. They are so correct – that you will think twice before pointing a finger. I am settled.

Settled is a very settled word. You feel relaxed when you here that someone is getting settled. In our society settled means “getting married”. But what does settle actually mean? Have good job person owning a house basically in one word being Independent according to me. But we take the opposite meaning of this word – you know how they say track suits are made to exercise but we use them for exactly opposite reason to relax. Same thing goes with this word “Settled”! Recently I came to know about a girl who got married at a very young age and she settled early in her life and people were discussing how fate and god was so good to her. But according to me she is not settled she just went from one home to another – first she was living on her dad’s money and now on her husband’s money. How is she settled? Settled means- having a job which makes you happy first thing – because you are happy with your job you are automatically happy with the money you are earning and end of the day it matters weather staying with your family or anywhere alone is making you happy. Why can’t a boy or girl claiming to be happy and satisfied concludes to the status as settled. All I can say is marriage is just another step of life – but not the final step to be settled – some of us guys and girl are very happily settled in our life by having the job we like – being satisfied with the money we earn and happily staying with our family.

A bit of Earning and Eating I want a new Job – but why?

I have been working for 9 years now and I have changed my jobs thrice. Why? Because the first one had everything, but somehow after watching Bollywood movies I wanted to try something different. You see, Bollywood movies inspire a lot! Well after my inspirations failed and reality hit me hard. I joined another company, left that one and joined another after two years – But I guess it’s time to leave this one too!
After rigorous searching and trying all the possible means of source to search for a job – I failed.
The truth is I didn’t fail to search for a job – I didn’t know what to search for. Everything is the same. Any company I go to is not going to please me. It might please me more than the previous one– but down the lane, after 6 months or a year, I will realize or be forced to know that this job is not worth my skills (Skills that I don’t even know I have- or I must have developed in that 6 months) to work in that – either it pays me less or my boss is not right or everything is good but I want more. The fact is we are never ever satisfied with what we have – it’s because we don’t know what we want. We are neither enjoying eating nor earning, because we are either eating less or earning less.
Every day I pass by seeing men at construction working under the boiling sun – I think about how we refuse to walk in heat from home to metro or anywhere for a minute. These people are working – I am sure the company doesn’t give them enough benefits or facilities – I mean, after this, the least they can be offered is a spa, right?  Because that is what we demand even after working under the Ac and well equipped offices.

All I can say is that first we should know what we want and what we are best at- may be certain ventures are not that good - but at least if we are doing what we like we can enjoy both a bit earning and a bit of eating.  Cause baby money is not everything.

Tamasha: This is the first time I have felt extremes about any movie. If I need to write in a comic way: I would say remember ‘FARHAN QURESHI’ from 3IDIOTS? Bengluru to Mumbai

1 week in this city and I have enjoyed each and every moment over here. I may not able to cross the road properly yet and still trying to be comfortable with my feet in the puddle as the rains are still coming in. Since last year I am planning to shift to India - but something always pulls me back. My preference has always been Pune or Bengaluru as I am from Dubai and I want the comfort and cleanliness around me - you see I am use to it! I visited Bengaluru last week  - and frankly it is quite I don't know if I should use the word boring but the city didn't impress me much. Where as despite of being a bit messy and crowded city - I still like Mumbai. I know I still have to learn a lot and I will eventually, I just need time. But there is something in this city which makes it very lively!
